Big Island Journals

These are my leather journals, inspired by the photo in my last blog. So.... what do you think? Did I capture some of the essence of the photograph in journal form? I think there's an element missing, but only because I don't have all resources at my disposal. However, I think for what I had to work with, I got pretty close! It was fun, regardless!

I think you nailed the color scheme! They feel so natural and comfortable. I really like how color is a subtle touch here, and that you added a shell (or is that a stone?) to one of the ties.

Thanks, Brandi! It's a shell, though it isn't one that I found on the island. I left all my shells up north, so this shell was found in nearby Malibu. That particular beach in Hawaii had a lot of stones on it, so that's what I would've liked to add, but I left my beach rocks up north, too! I really appreciate your feedback. Thank you!!

They are all amazing, Shari!
I think it is so fun to look at the various stitching patterns you used on the spines. They really go towards making this a handsome set of journals.

I also really love the rugged and ripped look of the leather on the darkest journal. I feel that it really pulls from the tattered rope in your picture. Was this your intention?

Thank you, Keith! Yes, the ripped look was intentionally a part of the design for the set. What wasn't intentional was the fact that I couldn't do the same treatment to the edges of the medium brown journal. The leather was treated differently. It may end up being replaced from this set as soon as I get some more leather!
