THIS Moment.

Have you ever felt yourself in the midst of a mind-flurry, and suddenly asked yourself, "What am I doing?" I think that all of us can sometimes (or often times) get caught up in our physical reality of what we think of as "Our Life," and forget to slow down.

I've read The Power of Now and A New Earth, by Eckhart Tolle. I received so much help from his books, and I wanted to share a bit of it with you.

One of my favorite bits is my understanding of This Moment that we are conscious in. When we live our lives, our only true (and thus most important) experience is what is Now. The current moment of experience is all we ever can possibly experience. The past is what we have already experienced (past Now moments), and the future is what we will experience, but NOW is what we ARE experiencing, and thus is the only reality. This is a little boggling when at first you sort it out.... the past certainly informs our perceptions of things that happen now, but it's PAST. It's done. We are no longer living it, as we should not be. We should always try to find ourselves immersed in the present. The Present is the gift we are given in our existence. The Present is our experience. It is our Joy, Excitement, Happiness, Sadness... all of our feelings are experienced in the present. Of course you can remember past joys, or sadness, but it's only a shadow compared to fresh emotions and feelings.

I believe that one of our duties to the well-being of our souls and psyches is to try to be fully aware of what is happening NOW. Of what our perceptions are NOW. Don't sleep walk through this life of ours, Friends and Family of mine (as you all are to me). It all goes so quickly! Love in the moment! Do new things as often as you can! Stretch yourself as much as you can! Squeeze the marrow out of life... don't let it just fall through your fingers... slurp it up!

I don't mean to tell you that you always have to go somewhere, or do something... what I mean is simply to be aware of each moment and to live that moment fully. Every moment. Don't fiddle your moments away by living too much in the past or future... I believe it was Einstein who said, "I never think about the future, it comes soon enough." So true.

Beautifully written Shari - we all do this don't we - planning for the future, thinking over the past - all we have is this moment in time, let's not miss it. I'm grateful for my past - I wouldn't be who I am today without it, but I don't want to live in it. I'm excited about the future - I do love to dream but life is for living... here and now - if we only dream and don't do we have wasted what is precious.

One of my favourite quotes...
Look to this day, for tomorrow is but a dream and tomorrow is only a vision - but today, well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore to this day. Sanskript Proverb

I enjoyed your post very much - thank you x

I have to confess that I have always been one of those people who lives "In This Moment". Some people think I'm too carefree and non-chalant for being like this. But I never thought about the reality of NOW, so I love this post!

The people I've known who dwell in the past or worry and over-plan for the future have a hard time letting go of that worry or planning. It's important to me to just BE, which doesn't mean sitting still. It means BE who you are and where you are today. Thank you for putting this into such great perspective!

I think that's excellent, Terri. We really should try to really be connected with the moment. Every moment! They're all an infinite possibility of wonder and joy! I'm so glad that you also can relate to my post.... it seems that through the blog world, I've magnetized like-minded people to me!! Yay!
