Missing the Ocean...

Take a walk along the beach with me... I'm missing the ocean very much. If there were one place that I could say always makes me happy, enriches my soul, feeds my body, it would be at the edge of the sea.

After reading Shannon's blog, I realized that I wanted to take a trip down memory lane, as I currently live a bit of a drive from the ocean. I needed to remember the sound of the waves crashing next to me.... or the sweet susurration of the gentler waves against soft sand... shhhhh... shhhhhhhhhh... shhhhh.... I've always loved that sound. The little treasures of Mother Nature tumbling along the water's edge, leaving a lacework tracery for the sea birds to follow. Rich and pungent sea weed sending its organic smells into the wind... all these things make me indescribably happy!

What places make you feel the most happy, the most "at home" and balanced? For me, it has always been walking at the feet of the ocean, or in her arms, floating, swimming. I hope you've enjoyed your walk with me along many edges of her vastness....

i would have to agree with you about the ocean. there's nothing quite like it for renewing and quieting down. i still remember the first time i saw the ocean, actually the Gulf down in Florida, and that feeling of excitement over the vastness of it is the same for me today. it gives me chills to even think about it!
p.s. your pictures are so lovely .. i especially like the toes together and your shadow pic ... wonderful.

You take amazing photos Shari. For me it's the ocean too - the vastness of it, the sounds and smells. I love how you mentioned the sounds of the softer waves, my Dad chose my daughters name when he was walking along the beach and I think her name came from those sounds, the shhhh, shhhh's (Eleisha)... the sh at the end :-) when I say her name softly and slowly it's like the whispers from the sea.

Sometimes when life feels a little overwhelming I always find myself heading for the beach (which is about a 20 minute drive from our house) and sitting on the beach, just watching and listening always restores an inner peace and balance. I would miss it terribly if I lived further away (but because England is a small island we are lucky that we are never really far from the great blue/grey waters).

Thank you, Karla... the toes together was just last summer with my sweetie, and means a lot to me!

Thanks, Shell! That's a wonderful story to share... your daughter was named after the sound the sea makes! I love it! Her name really DOES sound like that soft oceanic sound.... especially in California at beaches where there are more pebbles in the sand... elllleiiiishaaaaa.... I can totally hear it!
