My Bookshelves

I was inspired today by Lillian at Unstitched, to show you my bookshelf. (I was also prompted because I just received three new books in the mail from my best friend!) Now, my shelves are nothing fancy. K bought it from someone selling it on Craigslist, I believe. The bookshelf unit was too tall to fit through the tight turn from the front door to the living room, nor would it fit into my studio, so it sits in the only place it can... our hallway. Because of how dark it is in there, we took the back off, and K painted it white and reinstalled it. It brightened up the corner, which is necessary! He did a great job!

There are actually too many books to fit on this shelf unit, so I have a lot in my studio. However, someday, it would be nice to have built-in bookshelves, with molding and trim all around... I'm looking forward to that!

The shelves have goodies picked up on our travels, as well as goodies picked up by friends and family on their travels.

I have a small travel section on my bookshelf...

As well as a design section, though it spans a few sections of shelf space, and also the floor...
Besides design books, I have recipe books, lower right.

J Boo in front of the larger books on the floor.
The classics line 2/3 of the top shelf... beat gen authors next to Tolkien, and others. On other shelves, loads of Neil Gaiman, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Robin McKinley, and Michael Crichton. I also have a section of seashell reference books. Ha ha. This section gets used a lot!

Some of my favorite books are The Power of One, by Bryce Courtnay. My best friend, E, gave me that book years ago. I've read it several times. It's a wonderful novel about a young South African boy and his coming of age story. It's brilliantly written. Another is Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card... another story about a boy, but set in the future, and it's probably been read 10 times by now.... along with the rest of the series! I also have two glorious books with photos taken at Penland School, and the artistic book forms made there by their students and instructors.... gorgeous. There are also several art books.

I don't know if that tells you something about me, or not. Believe me, I didn't tell you about even half of the books I own! What sits on your bookshelves, friends?

Great bookshelf! I like it in the hallway like that. My sister in law had a built-in bookshelf made for their hallway cuz it was the only place it would fit. Looks like you have a great library! Isn't that a great feeling? Our bookshelves are on either side of our fireplace, with a selection of travel books, art books, travel adventure stories, several series, all of Sandra Dallas' books, a few classics, a few Stephen King books, a few Anne Rice books, quite a variety.

That's so funny, I too have a travel section, and a design/architecture section. Actually most of my bookshelf is taken up by these two. I'd love to jump into that photo and pick through your shelf, and look at books, looks like there would be some good finds in there! heehee :o)

Love the book collection Shari -- I'm constantly overflowing my bookcase as well. But I can't seem to stop buying them or giving any of them up!

I talked my dad into building me a custom bookcase a few years ago. I wanted it big, because I can't seem to part with all of my books. I started running out of space almost immediately, so a lot of my art history and designs books aren't even on there.

But I do have two shelves for work, a shelf for Harry Potter, and four shelves full of vampire books. Clearly, my priorities are in order. :)
