Newvox Art Gallery Opening!

So do you remember when I mentioned that I was going to be selling my books at a local gallery? The Grand Opening of Newvox Art Gallery is already coming up! It's June 11th, and a bunch of my handmade books will be there!

The owner, Reinaldo, has a blog, too. You can check it out here

So... if you're in the area of South Side Bethlehem, PA, why don't you check out the gallery? It'll be full of east coast artists and crafts people like me. The address is 425 Wyandotte St., Bethlehem, PA. There are lots of places to grab a bite to eat, like Blue Sky Cafe, one of my favorites! There are also other art galleries on 3rd Street to peruse. One of them has an Art-O-Mat machine... it's called Monsoon Gallery. Plus, it's kind of fun just to walk around this part of town (not all of it, but some of it) to see what's selling at the little boutiques and shops.

I'm really excited to have my books in a gallery! I've sold them at a book store in LA, but I was in a weird space back then, and not producing a whole lot. I've been getting great feedback here on my books. So maybe I'll sell some locally! Wouldn't that be cool? Wish me luck!

Cabbage Chairs

Image from DesignBoom
Designer, Oki Sato, of Nendo, a Tokyo/Milan design studio that he started, is having a show in NYC (until March 28th) of this series of chair sculptures... In an installation called "Ghost Stories" at Benda Gallery, he successfully re-thinks The Chair. I love the soft, deconstructed look of the chairs! They were made from Issey Miyake's pleating remnants (a lot of waste, right?) and can be shaped into sculptures hiding the chair within. They look as though they would feel like sitting on a softer version of my leather Butterfly Chair, as the seat is so scooped. My Butterfly Chair is one of the most comfortable chairs I've ever had. People who sit on it can't believe how comfy it is. (Best $50 I have ever spent! And that was the first piece of furniture that I bought for myself, at age 18.)

When have you seen something so completely re-designed? Usually it's a variation on a theme. This just goes so beyond that that I had to share!

By the way, Oki Sato is young... born in 1977 in Canada,  and he is very easy on the eyes, ha ha! I'm really impressed by his accomplishments thus far! He is definitely going places with his clean design style and innovation. I expect that after his New York show, he will become more widely known in the U.S.

I just wanted to share this with you all because I thought these chairs were so cool! I know they aren't for everyone, and indeed they wouldn't really fit into my decor here in this apartment. But if I saw one of these chairs in someone's home, I would definitely call dibs on that seat!! And if I were feeling chilled, I'd wrap those cabbage leaves around my body and hide away like a little cabbage patch doll!

Another New York Visit... for an Art Show!

My good friend, Casey O'Connell, had her first art gallery showing in New York last week, at Reaves Gallery in the Chelsea District... it was fantastic! She was so excited, as were my friends & I who know and love her. This was her dream since she was a little girl! And we were there when it finally expressed itself as a reality... it was wonderful! Her friend, Ally, blogged the experience of getting these huge paintings from Florida to NYC... Here are some pictures from her show. Casey is the adorable woman in red, white and black... the one with the biggest smile on her face!

Casey in the center. Isn't she adorable?

My Sweetie's favorite painting in the background there.

My favorite painting...

If you're going to be in New York in the weeks before Christmas, you can still see her work up for three weeks. You can't see any detail in her paintings from my photographs, but they are amazing! There's so much love and life in her paintings. You must see for yourself!!

Congratulations, Casey... YOU DESERVED THIS SHOW!! xoxoxoxoxo
