The Sound of Tree Rings...

My photo of an oak tree.

While browsing my Facebook feed, I found this awesome link that a friend of mine had posted... An artist named Bartholomäus Traubeck invented a way to "listen" to the sound of tree rings. Ingenious and creative. The result is amazing... Check this out below...

People are so ingenious... And I love that this piece might increase the interest of the general public in admiring and respecting nature. There's so much that we can learn from the natural world around us. There's more magic than we can discover in a lifetime, but keeping our eyes and heart open will allow more magic to find us...

Ocean {Starry} Sky...

I was quite blown away by this time-lapse video that Keith showed me. This guy, Alex Cherney does long exposure photography, as well as these gorgeous videos. Here's one of my favorites, which I wanted to share with you. It's breath-taking. The only time I've ever seen a sky that even came close to this was when I was at my friend Kelli's bachelorette party at a beach house in Stinson Beach. It was remote enough not to get a lot of light pollution from any big cities. At night I couldn't stop looking up. If I'd been able to make a video, it might have looked something like this...

It took Alex almost a year and half to make this video. It's obviously a work of love, don't you think? I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I think I watched it with a big smile on my face, or my mouth hanging open. To be completely honest, I was so absorbed by the video that I don't really know...

I've always wanted to be able to take photographs of the night sky, but I've always lived in areas of dense population. Only a three hour drive to Yosemite would yield a sky similar to this. However, you're surrounded by trees in the valley, and my knees aren't good enough for a hike to an area where I'm above the tree-line. Anyway, I don't live in California anymore, so will have to try to find a place in PA that will be good for night sky viewing. I really miss the celestial balm that a remote night sky is to my eyes... and my soul.

Summer Time... and the Living's Easy

I recently have been working on another video. I'm not in it, really, other than my feet. But that's because I was doing all the filming! When I'm in Mexico next week, I'll have K take some footage with me in it, so that I can be in one of my little video productions. :-)

I hope you enjoy it!

Did I mention that I'm loving summer in the east? It's so much more summery than summers in northern California. The daily heat, the humidity, the fireflies, the relaxed air of people starting to take it easy... people fishing in the rivers... it's just a whole other world to me. I may prefer winters in California, but I prefer summers in Pennsylvania.

California Goes to Europe 2010

Good morning! I hope everyone is having a fabulous day so far! I've been busy putting together a video, and I feel like it's done. I could probably sit and tweak it all day, but I'm going to go ahead and publish it now.

I mentioned before to you about how I finally got to go to Paris and Italy last year. I had wanted to go to Paris since I was a child of about four. My parents got me a Dr. Seuss's French/English picture dictionary. I was immediately entranced! I wanted to go and speak French and see the Eiffel Tower. I wanted to go to Italy since seeing photos of various places in the travel section of my mom's fashion magazines!

Well, our friend, Tracy, planned her wedding to her fiance  Brian in Stresa, Italy. It's a town on Lake Maggiore. A beautiful resort area... really stunning. And it gave us a reason to turn the whole trip into something monumental! I hope you enjoy this five and a half minute tour of my trip....

Turning Point

So despite feeling kind of funky these past few days (I'm attributing my discomfort to the rapid changes in barometric pressure) I worked on this video quite a lot. It took me several days to go through my footage (of which I have little) to put together something that described my whirlwind life last year. You could say that it was my "turning point." Although, even though it was a drawing challenge, I chose to describe it in video, rather than a drawing.

Here it is. I hope you enjoy it:

chili festival

Well, here it is. My little iMovie video of the footage I shot during the chili festival. No chili was filmed, but that's because I was busy eating at that time. This is everything after the eating... and it was a lot of fun! I hope you enjoy watching.
